Well I am thankful to have gone to the Falcons game yesterday and to have taken this pic of you..

  Damn, ATL! Your memory is like an iron claw. I can't remember where that picture is from. I think Ovie was featured in Esquire. That or maybe Men's Vogue. It was something big. On a side note, gotta get Ovie voted into the Pro Bowl. He has Michael Turner and that offense buzzing!

    After the game, Ovie threw one of his gloves right into the crowd where I was standing and a little boy and his dad caught it, that was so sweet.
    
    Even though all the players looked disappointed, and most of them were blocking out the crowd calling their names, Ovie still took the time to acknowledge us and throw a gift into the crowd.

      The priest over at my mom's church is Nigerian (Ibo), so when I went to church with her I told him "kedu" (hello/how are you).. He looked so surprised he didn't even think to say "Odi mma" (I'm fine, thanks)..
      
      I was so humbled and honored to have traveled to Africa! I cannot wait to go back next year..

I'm thankful that I get to spend Thanksgiving with my wife and her family and friends - eating, drinking, and watching football is one heck of a day. I used to be a golf pro, and had to work on Thanksgiving and every other holiday. Now that I have changed careers, I get to enjoy weekends and holidays, and Thanksgiving is one of the best. And watching the Cowboys lose on Thanksgiving makes it even better!

But on a more serious note, I am grateful that my elderly Mom got a chance to see the first Black President of the United States in her lifetime.

Heck, I am grateful to have seen it myself! I was in WalMart when the news came in. Walmart erupted in cheers and that's when I knew it happened.

I was so overwhelmed with joy that I was in WalMart that night crying like a baby! lol ;-( The cashier came out to give me a hug after she rang up my purchases! LOL...

But of course I am thankful for all of the normal things as well, family, friends, health, and peace of mind..

  I really appreciate you doing this Ovie. Around this time of the year people still seem to forget to think of the things they are thankful for. This has just reminded me of how much I have already in life and if I couldn't get another thing in life, I would be okay. So I would have posted my video but 1, I don't know how, and 2, I cried in most of it… I know I am a little sensitive.
  I am truly thankful for my mom. I don't think there are even enough words to explain how truly thankful I am to have a mother like her. God truly blessed me. Sometimes I don't even think I deserve to have her in my life because I don't show her enough how much I appreciate her. I know moms are supposed to always be there for their children but mine has gone above and beyond. For the first 16 years of my life it was just she and I. She would sacrifice things in her life so that I would have the best life possible. I think she felt like she had to because my dad was not involved and neither were many of my other family members. I can't remember a time that I went out or even to a movie with my grandmother or my aunt or even my dad. My mother's mother passed when I was eight and I believe she tried to fill that void too. She would honestly give me anything in the world. She is honestly one of the only people that I can turn to (beside God). She is there when I need help, advice, comfort, even spiritually. She keeps me grounded, she reminds me who I am and Who's I am. She was there when I was having issues with self-esteem and sadness. She didn't just brush it off and forget about it, she now calls me EVERY morning and leaves me an encouraging message, reminding me of how wonderful and beautiful I am. She actually cares about my well-being, she cares about me. Although she has remarried and had another child, she is still there for me. She has such a big heart. She is not only there for me but many others in her life. She has helped raised her nephew and provided for many others. People call her all the time to hear her encouraging words. I now know the true meaning of unconditional love. I don't think I would be here right now if it wasn't for her. God blessed her so that she could bless me. I am truly truly thankful for my wonderful mother.

Im thankful for my daughter, who i love more than anything in this world, who is my pride and joy, the love of my life, and my rock, and purpose. Im blessed to have someone in my life who can make me smile when im down, who makes me laugh with her quirkiness, who amazes me every single day, in every single way. She is my best friend and inspiration.

Im also thankful for the Philadelphia Phillies for finally winning my hometown of the Illidel a championship finally!!! The Phillies have been my favorite sports team since i learned what baseball was. Alot of my only good childhood memories revolved around going to the Phillies games with my late father when i was a child. This championship wasn't jiust a sporting accomplishment, but also a personal one.

I am also thankful for my family. Through this trying year, i wouldnt be where am i rightLAst now without thier support! It's nice to know there are some people out there who you can turn to, and wont kick you when you are down. I love them very much, and they know id take my shirt off my back for them too!!!

I am thankful of those on this site who dont take my sarcasm personally, and take it as humor, and not as insults. Those who read my articles, and havent attacked me personally in ignorance. Just because my opinion is different than yours, does not make you any better or any worse, and those who realize that, thank you for making this website a good place to talk sports and debate sports without knowing you will get uptight and angry and throw a temper tantrum.

And i am also thankful for the Drill, for keeping it real, not like some other athletes who have their agents post up here and not answer or give their fans the time of day. And im not saying this to kiss @ss to try to get a better shot at winning, getting to express myself means more than winning, and i think im not the only one on here who feels that way also. This is an awesome post, and its just nice to know Ovie takes the time out of his busy schedule and reads these, and keeps it real. He hasnt forgot about the fans and that is very refreshing these days in sports!

In all Honesty I don't have too much to be Thankful for this year,it has been One of the Worst year's I can remember..I Don't really care too much about the Contest Mr.Mughelli,But I felt like I should sharethis with everyone so that they can realize that life is precious and enjoy their family and the time they have together,See my Father and Mother have already passed and this year I lost my youngest Brother to Domestic Violence Yes! He was a victim of Domestic Violence Killed by his Daughter's Mother while hold his little girl in his arms,(I know someone is reading this and probably thinking that this whole story is made up for some form of sympathy,But I assure I would never make up a Story like this,it has changed the very being of Me and my other Brothers and sisters..)And to anyone who thinks that I'm lying this a youtube,report on the tragic death of someone who had so much potential...
My Brother Loved life and his Family and most of all his Daughters,so you ask Me what can be Thankful when I've LOST so much?Life is precious and I try to cherish everyday like it's My Last..So Please to anyone that has Family tell them you love them everyday and Enjoy those times spent together because you'll never know when something bad can happen andI wouldn't wish the pain and sorrow on anyone not even my Worst enemy.The song was Dedicated to My little Brother..So Mr.Mughelli I don't have too much to be thankful this year,But I know that Better Days are ahead,God wouldn't give me anything I can't Handle..May God continue to Bless you and your Family..And to everyone that may read this Remember Life is truly a Gift,so Please Cherish it..

  Wow...I will be praying for you. I have been thru a similar situation. Lost someone to a crazy act of violence. But you do have something to be thankful for, you have your life. Although your brother is no longer here, he does not have to suffer anymore. You should be thankful that your not sick, ill, missing a limb, your not breathing thru tubes. I know its hard to believe you have anything to be thankful for but that is why you share your pain so that others can be there for you and be there to remind you. But I see you already know that better days are coming. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe you posting this story has helped someone on the Yard right now or even beyond. Keep your head up. God loves you!!!

  This is a horrible thing to happen and I wish all the best for you and your family.
  How is your niece doing? To be in her daddy's arms while her mommy killed him has got to be horrible. I hope she can get the help she needs to gt through this tragedy.

    Well you know he would have wanted you to look out for your nieces, so stay in their lives if you can as a male figure or even father figure if possible.. You may gain more peace of mind if you can do that!
    
    It always eases my mind about the passing of a loved one if I try to remember things they did that made me laugh! So whenever I catch myself feeling sad, that perks me up and gets me through it..
    
    Just hang in there, its good you have the right attitude though when you said there are better days ahead!

      Your absolutely right it gives me some kid of peace and God is by my side,and I have to be strong for my nieces but my brother was only 21,His life was just starting and in a instance it was taking away,I have to admit this is even harder then dealing with my Mom's passing,But God continues to give me some reason for going on..And I cherish the Day no matter how bad things get I'm fortunate,I guess?

Even in college they called me "little miss motherhood". Not only did I manage a maternity store but I manage to keep 5 of us (4 of which were athletes) focus on graduating on time, keeping true to ourselves, staying out of trouble and getting no one pregnant! I always knew I wanted a houseful of children, hugs and kisses and even the ups and downs. In 1998 the first of the many of children came, her name is Maggie! She is so much to so many people. She's our little fashion designer already learning to sew and create her own looks. Shes a campaigner and I am sooo very proud of all her efforts for Obama from her emails, fliers and fundraisers. On election day I cried in line and while voting, just completely caught up in the moment. And while I voted she rubbed my back but when I was finished said, "ok dry those tears mommie we still have people to talk to about Obama!" She's my mini me, looking just like me but she's the super version of. She swims, golfs and plays lacroste and doesn't hesitate to try anything. And along the way she tries to teach me too. She's everyones teddy bear. Knowing exactly when you need hug without even asking for one or knowing who you are. She is all about volunteering and helping kids less fortunately than her and meeting a new friend along the way. I guess in a way I have a house full of children just all wrapped into my one and only, Maggie. She has taught and braught to me unconditonal love from the beginning of her life. It is her life I am most thanksful for. But I also can't forget the two women that taught me what is was to be a woman and a mother, my mom and granny. Lastly, I am thankful as well for the 4 men that have been a positive role model in her life too. Happy Thanksgiving to ALL!

I things I am most thankfull for are my family and health. On Nov.12th 2007 (one year ago) my second daughter Nasyah was born two months premature. We had no idea of any kind of health issues that she may have had until the day she was born. Upon her birth the docs noticed that her stomach was very big. They later rushed her to the Children's Hospital her in Denver and did an emergency surgery on her intestines. They could not take care of the problems at that time so they put in drainage tubes to remove waste. Long story short, she was in the hospital almost four months. She has been through 5 surgeries over the last year and we will have another major surgery in the next year. During those four months we werent sure from day to day if she was going to live or not. My daughter has been diagnosed with a very rare chromosome disorder called "Partial Trisomy 9". There are less than 2000 people in the United States with the same disorder. I am thankfull that she is with us and that we just celebrated her 1st birthday. Thank you for your time and GOD BLESS!!

I am thankful for my strong mother, who has been the strength of my family. IAlso, I am thankful that I get the opportunity to give back to my community by volunteering at Crafthouse Medical Clinic every Saturday. I get a chance to provide adequate healtcare to people in my community that can't afford healthcare because they don't have insurance. I really enjoy it and am grateful that I can give back. MY TURN GUYS. I am truly thankful for my family and true friends. I am truly blessed to be where i am, but like biggie said "more money more problems." I gotta be honest with u guys and tell u that i kinda lost faith in people after time after time people tried of take advantage of me from contractors, lawyers, decorators, businessmen, real estate agents all male and female etc. there came a time i just wanted to stay home and deal with noone because for the 1st time i felt like i was just a dollar sign to people. But i am blessed to have a great group of true friends and a great family who have always shown me unconditional love. Im also thankful for my yardbarker fans because u guys always put a smile on my face. Win lose or draw

I bet you do appreciate your family and 'true' friends because they support you and help you stay ground. You always hear negative things about a lot of famous people, not just athletes. I think that was why I thought you were so admirable. You seem like a really cool person. I hope that nothing I have ever said came across the wrong way and made you leery of me. I know that you wanted to be treated the same. Keep doing you and doing all the good deeds that you do. I know you wont let people keep you at home and not enjoying life. Your alright in my book! (a) I'm thankful that Yardbarker and Ovie Claus have given us this opportunity to express ourselves. I have mixed feelings about writing here b/c my life has been put into perspective after reading everyone's entry; thank you for having the strength to share. This is probably cheesy, but I am thankful for sports--I have had a really rough year, healthwise, and sports are what keeps me smiling. I know I'm one of like 6 hockey fans in the world, but it makes me happy, and I hope the Sharks win the Stanley Cup this year!!
(b) I am thankful that my health is improving (terrible gastrointestinal issues), and while I must stick to a certain restricted diet, I am thankful that I am getting healthy enough to eat Taco Bell and Dunkin Donuts once in a while (maybe). But I am definitely thankful to be healthy enough to binge eat on Thanksgiving b/c I'm totally going to do that.
(c) I am most thankful for my family, who stands by me no matter what, even when I'm irritable and upset about my health. They tell me it's going to be okay. My mom cooks scrumptious meals for me based on my restricted diet and I am so lucky. Nothin' like Mama's cookin'.

  I am supposed to have a business trip to China this month but it will have to wait if it gets anywhere near Turkey Day!! LOL.. My Mom's cooking is calling my name! ;-)

    CHINA?! That's awesome!! But yeah, mom's cooking ESPECIALLY on Tgiving is MUY IMPORTANTE! How is it having a warm Thanksgiving down there in TX? It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay cold in NY and I'm the nutcase who forgot her hat/gloves/scarf today!

      Gracias Cuuu, I think that it might be cold for Thanksgiving in the Houston area this time around.. Will have to see, the forecast is not looking too promising! Mucho Frio in my opinion!! LOL ;-)
      
      I would definitely need those accessories in NY! I get cold here in GA at 60 degrees LOL..
      
      I was in NYC for NYE 2 years ago and froze to death! But seeing that ball drop in Time Square in person was worth it..

I'm thankful for having a strong male role model figure in my life when I was young, My father. he was there from birth, watch me grow into a young man after high school and put me thru college. He retired from the Philadelphia School District in 1986 as the director of Social Studies. i watched him do pro bonno work after his retirement and at age 66 he started to stay home more. I moved in with him and care for him until his death this pass August. I was at his bedside. He was 79 years old. And up until July his health was great. I'm thankful I got the chance to take care of him in his golden years which were more fun that you can imagine, and even after his passing he still gives to me. He gives me an understanding of life and the forfillment of taking care of him and making his life easy in his last years. He has passed to me a clear consciences and a ton of wisdom and strenght. I applaud all Black men who raise their children, especiallu us hard headed guys One Love That is what I'm most Thankful for. Thanks Dad !!
