Win an autographed drill from "The Drill"
Recently I had a contest in the Yard where fans suggested nicknames for me. The winning nickname was The Drill. Now I'm here in the Yard to give away an autographed drill to one lucky fan! All you have to do is post a video, photo or leave a comment explaining why you need the drill. What kind of project are you working on? What do you need to fix? Show me why you deserve this autographed drill! I'll be picking a winner on Monday, November 17 (give or take a few days). Then after this contest, I'll have another one for you. Thanks to all my fans in the Yard... go Falcons!

Just to give you a little background on me--I grew up with 6 brothers, so obviously I had my fair share of exposure to working on cars and handyman-types of hobbies--hence my claim to fame as a very rare, mechanically-inclined female!
Years ago as a struggling college student, I found myself with a 1976 Volvo that had too much "play" in the steering wheel. I brought it to a mechanic and he told me that I needed a new rack & pinion--don't remember how much I was quoted--somewhere around $400 or so parts and labor.
Anywho, I didn't have the money to buy the part new or used, so I told him to put my car on the lift and point it out to me and I would go to my storage and pull the part off of my volvo "shell" I had in a storage yard. The whole garage erupted in laughter! So they humored me and lifted the car and showed me exactly what I had to do and then added that if I brought it back, they would put it on for something ridiculously low like $20 or $30.. So I left the garage listening to another outburst of laughter and determined to quiet the room on my return.. ;-)
I went to my storage yard, jacked up the spare parts car, and got everything loose on the part except for one side that was rusted near the front--I couldn't budge it! So I called my brother on his cell and he came by and used a ball joint separator(?) and a hammer to knock it loose, then I was done!!
So I returned to the mechanic's garage, dirt under my nails and on my shirt, pants, etc., but with a Kool-Aid smile on my face and the rack and pinion in my hands LOL.. Every guy in there had their jaws dropped to the floor and looked like they saw a ghost! So I politely said, "Now how much did you tell me this would cost?" LOL.. And he kept his word and put it on for next to nothing! And my steering was nice and tight again!! All for a fraction of the cost! Gotta Love It!! ;-)
Manicure dirty nails: $25
Dirty hair wash and set: $35
Seeing the mechanics' faces when I walked in with that part: priceless
Here is a pic I took of my toolbox 11/13/08. Part 2 of 2 coming soon!

One day my ex-boyfriend's aunt noticed that one of her tires went flat on her car in her driveway. She was fussin and cussin and talking about how she didn't want to wait for her husband to get home to change it for her--she had things to do!! LOL..
So there was a young man there as well who offered to change the tire for her. I stood there and watched as he jacked up the car and started taking off the hubcap. Well for some reason that darn hubcap was stubborn so he started using more and more force to take it off until the car started rocking back and forth on the jack!
Auntie comes running down the driveway trying to take her cigarette out of her mouth so she could cuss him out, telling him he is gonna wish the car fell on him after she gets through with him.. LOL..
So anywho, I told him he should have lift the brake up and taken off the hubcap and loosened up the lugs before he ever tried to jack the car up. So he stepped to the side and sarcastically motioned for me to take over and Auntie stepped in and repeatedly told me that she has never seen a woman change a tire and wouldn't trust me doing it, so she will just wait until her husband got home.
Well time rolls by and hubby is nowhere to be found, so I asked her again if she would let me try. She gave me a stern look and of course threatened my life as well if I were to mess up her car, but was willing to let me try because she was getting low on cigs and ready to bounce to the store.
So to make a long story short, I ended up successfully changing the tire, Auntie was shocked, the on-lookers were shocked, and Auntie got a chance to make her cig run to the store before her withdrawal nightmare set in.
I promise you, for the next 2 weeks Auntie was driving by blowing her horn and sticking her head out of her car window and yelling "Hey Niecey, I'm still driving on that tire you put on!!" LOL!! As if she was expecting it to fall off or something.. ;-)
But anyway, not all of my projects end up successfull without a cost, I fixed my garage door motor only to find out the hard way that my weight wasn't quite supported by the roof of my car, hence the booty dent pictured below (if you look really closely, you can see it LOL)..
Ovie, I know you are good at pushing opposing players out of the way, but can you take down a headliner and push out a booty dent? Help a sista out! LOL!

I deserve the drill because not only am I a "do-it-herselfer" for my own projects but I also help others as well. I am always pulling over on the side of the road to help other females fix their flats or get them to safety if I cannot help fix the problem!
You awarding the drill to me would represent your appreciation for a one-of-a-kind female who dares to be different and takes on the challenges of being a Miss-Fix-It in traditionally male-dominated hobbies! LOL! ;-)
Thanks for reading this guys LOL.. I like telling those stories regardless! ;-)
Good luck tomorrow against the Broncos, I will be at the game rooting for you guys!
