Football on ice - Thrashers vs. Caps
Two nights ago I went to see the Thrashers, the Atlanta hockey team, play against the Washington Capitals. I was invited by some good friends of mine, who got me amazing seats - front row, against the glass. It was basically a chance to see football on ice. They won 7-4 when nobody expected them to, and although the stands weren't full, there were plenty of diehard fans there to cheer them on. They pulled out a great win. I had never really been into hockey before, but I am now. It was just so impressive to see the athleticism they have on those skates. It was obvious that I wasn't too familiar with the sport, though. I kept yelling "Stop the ball!" and my friends had to remind that it was called a puck. Overall, it was an awesome experience, though it was a little lame that toward the end of the game one of the huge Washington ogres picked a with our star rookie, who was much smaller. I was just thinking how funny it would be if in the NFL they allowed us 20 second fights with anyone we picked out on the opposing team. That would cause a whole lot of chaos.
At one point they recognized me - had me on the jumbotron and everything, and they wished me luck against the Bears this weekend. That's when I told them that we were going to beat Chicago, which is exactly what we just did.

Ovie, can you skate? I tried when I was a kid, but didn't have much success. It's amazing how those guys can move on the ice. Glad you're a hockey fan now, it's a great sport.

You are right. The Thrashers have some true die hard fans even when their season is not the best. A complete stranger introduced me to hockey. He overheard my conversation with someone that I had never been to a hockey game and knew nothing of the sport. Though I did know its a puck and not a ball!(hahaha) And out of the blue handed me tickets to the game. I had a good time and would like to go again. The fights gave the game a lil toughness especiall when its a couple of players into it. As for the football on ice....no thanks. Unless.... it was with coaches because sometimes 'if looks could kill' on the sidelines it would be a whole new game.
Congrats to you and the entire team today on your win. -
thx for the props the win feels great. and its easy to confuse a puck and a ball....well kinda

I'm glad you enjoyed the Thrashers game! Going to them is one of my favorite things to do in ATL. Hockey is very special to me; I went to school up north - where the sport is HUGE. On top of that, I served as my school's mascot one year and had to skate on the ice (in costume) for almost every home game.
Go Thrashers and Go Falcons! (GREAT game yesterday! My heart is still not back to normal!) -
i feel ya im jus now getting back to normal breathing patterns

Hockey. Hmmm. Ok. What about sportsmanship? You should try MMA...talk about athleticism. Also, in MMA, when those guys (or girls) are done fighting, they congratulate each other and walk away. Now that's good sportsmanship.

i couldnt do mma and then shake hands at the end. there is smth about being punched in the face that makes me not wanna shake hands aferwards

I just went to my 1st hockey game a couple weeks ago. It was Sharks pre-season.
It was kind of odd because no one really talks too much about hockey in the bay area - but the pre-season game was just about sold out.
It was a blast! The hockey fights are something else! Those are some tough guys no doubt.
Congrats on your win. :) -
thx gsw

Well I am glad you enjoyed the game. It's a great sport. Been a part of my life since birth. :). Thrashers are a good team, good players. You should try and catch a game when the Penguins are in town. You would definatly enjoy that. Keep kicking some a** in all your games.

Hockey is the greatest game on Earth. It doesn't translate as well to tv as the NFL so it's not a big enough deal here in the states. The collissions are comparable to football except they are moving much faster and are on skates.
