Mike Tyson Picks The Winner Of Fury Vs. Usyk – ‘He’s The Best’

Tyson Fury will beat Oleksandr Usyk as he is the bigger and stronger fighter. 

That is according to Mike Tyson. The Undisputed Heavyweight Championship takes place on May 18. The winner becomes the first undisputed champion since 1999 when Lennox Lewis defeated Evander Holyfield. Fury and Usyk are undefeated. Fury has every belt in the division. He won the final one, beating Deontay Wilder to become the WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World. But he has not been undisputed.

Usyk, however, has become undisputed at cruiserweight. He defeated Murat Gassiev in 2018 to win the four belts. Beating Fury makes him the best heavyweight of this era. The victory allows him to join Terence Crawford and Naoya Inoue, the two other fighters in the four-belt era, as two-division undisputed champions.

Usyk appears to have put on weight, showing his intent to put more power behind his shots. Fury has the size and reach advantage. A large part of that is his six-foot-nine height. The Gypsy King will be heavier coming into the fight. While he looks lighter than usual, Iron Mike believes Fury will bulldoze his way through Usyk. Fury showed this when he leant on Wilder in the second and third bouts. This was a departure from the first Wilder fight when Fury tried to outbox the American. Tyson felt Fury would come out on top.

“I look forward to that fight [Fury Vs. Usyk]. That is going to be an interesting fight. I’m going towards Tyson Fury because I think he’s just going to overpower him. He’s going to catch up with him and overpower him. I got to go with Fury. I think he’s the best fighter in the world, especially in the heavyweight division. Great fighters lose, great fighters look bad, that doesn’t stop them from being great fighters,” Tyson said

Nevertheless, Fury must perform much better than his last fight. He struggled to get past Francis Ngannou. Fury got off the canvas in the third round, following Ngannou’s left hook to take it to the distance. He was awarded a split decision win. However, the verdict did divide some in the boxing community, with a feeling Ngannou had been robbed.

Even if Fury tries to impose the tactics as he did on Wilder, his legs may have slowed down. He was dropped several times in the Wilder fight, with Fury later revealing that he worried about having brain damage. He risks walking onto something since he recently cut his eye in sparring, which saw the Usyk fight being called off for February 17. But Mike refused to draw attention to the struggles against Ngannou. 

“Hey, we should [not focus on what Fury did against Ngannou], but you have to understand that he is still the champion. He made that night a great night. He gave Francis [Ngannou] the opportunity, and that was just a bad night at the office for him. We all have bad nights, and listen, that was his bad night,” Tyson added
