New York Mets fans are understandably dejected following the news that superstar closer Edwin Diaz is going to miss the entirety of the 2023 season after suffering an injury at the World Baseball Classic.
On Thursday night, Diaz posted a message to Mets fans on Twitter thanking them for their support and saying he cannot wait to see them at Citi Field and hear the trumpets again soon.
To all my beloved fans, especially the Mets fans, I want to let you know that I am doing well and healing. I feel blessed and grateful for your support with messages and prayers, thank you very much! I can't wait to see you guys in NY again and play those trumpets. pic.twitter.com/fnOezkW6Mr

The Diaz injury is a massive loss for the Mets bullpen because he is one of the league's best closers and arguably the best closer in the game.
While it might not keep the Mets from still being an outstanding team, it could make a huge impact come playoff time or in determining the difference between a division championship or a wild-card spot. It stands to reason that another closer might be the difference between a couple of wins along the way, and that could be especially significant come playoff time.
Diaz re-signed with the Mets this offseason, inking the largest contract ever for a relief pitcher.
