Kyle Petty claims NASCAR desperately needed 'Mr. Congeniality' Chase Elliott’s win at Texas
Michael C. Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott came into the 2024 season with a chip on his shoulders. He has been winless the whole 2023 season, while his teammates were dominating and he needed to break this streak as soon as possible. But after eight races into the season, he was still winless while his teammates Kyle Larson and William Byron combined won four races.

But everything went right for his at Texas Motor Speedway, as he ended his 42-race winless streak in an impressive fashion and secured a playoff spot in the process. Chase Elliott’s win means more to the sport than any other driver, as among the hard-core NASCAR fans, he has always been the favourite thanks to his ex-Cup champion father Bill Elliott .

Ex-NASCAR driver Kyle Petty, while talking about the same pointed out that NASCAR needed Elliott to win on Sunday, as the sport needed the exposure and popularity it comes with.  He believes NASCAR has got back the champion Elliott they needed at Texas and sees it as a big step for the sport in the coming days.

Chase Elliott. We need him to win. The sport needs him to win. We need that exposure. We need that Mr. Popularity. We need that Mr. Congeniality. We need him there. Yesterday, we got him back in Texas. And that was a big step for us. That’s a big step for the sport. Kyle Petty told NASCAR.com.

Kyle Petty is not surprised by Chase Elliott’s win

The eight times Cup race winner pointed out that he was not surprised to see the 2020 Cup champion back on the victory lane at this early in the season. He hilariously said that that planets and moon just aligned to help highest back on the victory lane.

I guess it took a total eclipse of the sun to get the planets lined up so that Chase Elliott could find his way back to victory lane. Honestly, this should come as no surprise. Kyle Petty said.

Chase Elliott will be tackling the remaining races of the 2024 season with more confidence and less pressure. This might lead to him being as productive on the track as he used to be and would result in him scoring multiple wins. As Petty claimed more success for the No:9 team would always makes the majority of legacy NASCAR fans happy.
