Andreas Christensen’s illness is invented claims Spanish sources

Mundo Deportivo have a report today about Andreas Christensen looking for a house in Barcelona ahead of his free transfer move this summer.

It’s all pretty standard stuff, and hardly surprising considering we’ve basically had it confirmed all round that the defender is off on a free transfer this summer.

But there are still some interesting wrinkles to the story without doubt, and one comes right at the end of the story.

They claim that the defender’s absence from Thomas Tuchel’s squad due to a mystery illness in the last 3 games is entirely fabricated, and that it’s in fact a “technical decision” from the coach.

To be honest it was always very fishy, and we suspected from the first that something like this was happening. It makes sense – there’s no point playing someone who is moving on and potentially lacking commitment to the cause, especially if there are other equally good options in the squad.
